Dwight Stevenson
A motivated and well read, leader, globetrotter, and educator, seeking a position where he might incite positive change, going where there is no path, leaving a trail.
Dwight Stevenson is a New York State certified Social Studies educator. Finishing his coursework at Syracuse University in December of 2012, Stevenson earned a B.A. in History summa cum laude, and an M.S. in Secondary Social Studies Education. As an undergraduate history major, Stevenson wrote his senior thesis on Paramahansa Yogananda, his organization the Self-Realization Fellowship, and the combination of Western and Eastern influences in Yogananda's teachings. While researching this paper, Stevenson was awarded the history department's undergraduate research scholarship to fund his travel to the Library of Congress, and was designated a Wortman Scholar. As a student leader at Syracuse University, Stevenson served as President of the New York Epsilon Chapter of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity during its re-founding. He led the chapter from its formation as an interest group, through its rechartering as a full chapter. He helped the chapter to set and meet goals, and challenged himself and his chapter to Become the Greatest Version of Themselves. Dwight took this challenge seriously, and in the Summer of 2012, he became an Iron Phi by cycling 800 miles in 8 days and raising nearly $3,000 for the ALS Association and the Phi Delta Theta Foundation. During Dwight's student teaching placements, he designed lessons that incorporated technology and a variety of media texts (Twitter, Prezi, memes), across the broad range of Social Studies fields. His placements had him instructing lessons in Global History, US History, Economics, Sociology and Literacy. Stevenson's lessons engaged learners across the spectrum, and challenged students to perform at or above the high level of his expectations. Dwight has also been teaching yoga since the fall of 2008, after completing both his 200hr and 500hr yoga teacher certifications with Sri Dharma Mittra at the Dharma Yoga Center in NYC. Dwight values family, community and philanthropy, and would be happiest working in an environment and community that also values these things. As a driven and experienced leader and team player, Dwight would be an asset to any organization or department. For further information contact Dwight via email at [email protected]
